This town is our primary mission field. Everyone needs the opportunity to hear about Jesus Christ and decide how to respond to him. Everything in our church is geared around that process.

Evangelism (sharing the truth about Jesus Christ in words that people can take in and understand) is a crucial part of our strategy for growing the church and glorifying the Lord Jesus Christ. But there is much more to it than evangelism; we usually need to raise an awareness of spiritual reality, make contact with people and develop relationships before we can evangelise.

Then when people respond to the gospel we have to nurture and disciple them and train them to start the whole process over again.

India

We are partnering with TTI in Kanataka. The mission is led by Saheb Jan Borgall whose wife Rita provides much of the administrative support. There are more than 30 missionaries in about ten mission fields

Their vision is to take the good news of Jesus to tribal people in remote villages who will otherwise never hear. These people are mostly poor and are excluded from society, ignored by the authorities and denied basic services like medical care and education. The Christian gospel brings them practical help as well as dignity and value.

The missionaries visit the villages, usually on bikes, to meet people and tell them about the Lord Jesus. Often people have great needs but the missionaries are poor themselves and so they pray with people about their circumstances and ask for healing from disease. There have been many wonderful answers to prayer and many people have put their faith in God because they have seen him work very powerfully. In some centres TTI have started schools and provided basic medical care.

When people put their faith in Christ they are formed into “Christ Worshipping Groups.” Often consisting of family members and close friends who have been won to Christ they meet to worship and read the bible, if they have one! A missionary visits to teach and encourage them and the groups grow as other people in the village are converted. In Chikkerur these groups have swelled to become a sizeable church.

Brazil

Harvest Ministries Church in Ceilandia ( a suburb of Brasilia) have a vision to grow and multiply their cell groups in Ceilandia through high energy evangelistic activity. They want to see one cell in each neighborhood of their sector of the city.

They also want to plant a sister church in Sobral, a major city in the deprived North east of Brazil where there is great material and spiritual need.

Their current goal is to get the cell groups growing; 32 by the end of 2003. Members of the cell group invite their friends who through conversation and bible teaching become Christians and are nurtured.

New Christians receive training so that in nine months they can start their own cell group!

In the meantime Staines Baptist Fellowship, Harvest Ministries and the Assemblies of God Church in Maranguape (near to Sobral in NE Brazil) are partnering to support a worker (Claudio) in the Maranguape municipal region who is responsible for four congregations and is hoping to start others

We are partnering with Operation Mobilisation to support Shibu and Gulmira Jacobs in Jalalabad. Their vision is to plant a fully autonomous and independent church there.

They use friendship evangelism to grow small cell groups. These groups also provide the context for discipling and teaching the believers.

Their current goals are to:

  • Multiply their groups from the current five to thirteen
  • Win more men to Christ; the groups are predominantly female
  • Train a couple to lead the church so as to release Shibu and Gulmira
